I was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer back in December 2013. Throughout my treatment, I have been giving a lot of thought as to what I can do to help raise funds and awareness in the much needed fight against Bowel Cancer; the disease which has affected me so personally over the past year.
For those of you who have been reading my website, will hopefully understand how important running has been for me as part of my treatment and recovery process. You will probably therefore not be surprised to hear that I have taken the decision to use running as the best way for me to do this!.
Rather than raising money for one specific race, I have decided to set myself the challenge of running three! (one of which I will attempt to do while undergoing chemotherapy). Whilst I know I have a long way to go and am not ‘out of the woods’ yet, I am confident and hopeful that I will be ready to ‘take this on’!.
My hope is to not only target £20k for my chosen charity, Beating Bowel Cancer, but also I to raise the profile of my own website, in the hope that it can maybe help others in a similar situation as me.
So this is what I have come up with……!:
*MY TARGET: £20,000
*MY CHALLENGES:
NUMBER 1: 10 mile Great South Run 26th October 2014 (while undergoing chemotherapy)
Despite this being the shortest of the runs, I am expecting it will probably to be the most difficult as I will still be undergoing chemotherapy at the time. As some of you may be aware I have now completed 3 chemo cycles (out of 13) and with just 1 more to go before the race itself, I am thinking that I am just about up for the task. I can’t promise a quick time or even whether I will be able to physically run the whole way, but I will give it my all that’s for sure!.
NUMBER 2: Berlin marathon September 2015
NUMBER 3: London marathon April 2016
